An opener is generally worth replacing rather than repairing when it's over 10 to 15 years old, the circuit board has failed, replacement parts are hard to source, or you're upgrading to a heavier insulated door that the existing motor isn't rated to lift safely.
It's also common for homeowners to replace a working but ageing opener simply for the upgrade: quieter belt drive operation, smartphone control, battery backup for power outages, or rolling code security instead of an older fixed-code remote.
